oh, canada

So for the few of you that aren't aware, I'm basically obsessed with Canada.

People tell me, "You're crazy!! America is way better! We're awesome! God bless America!!!!!"

I understand a lot of people's love for America. Well hey, it's the country we live in! I can say that there are a lot of great aspects of America that I love, but what about the undeniable ones that many people don't? And honestly, I like America too! I just think Canada's better! Many countries don't like America. They claim that we get involved in everyone's business when we aren't welcomed, our government is corrupt, we only see one side of every issue in the media, etc. But, when it comes to Canada, what do they have to say? Even the most patriotic of my friend's only had to offer to this argument, "Well, Canada didn't create anything beneficial. [For goodness sake], even Canadian bacon is just heated ham!"

Actually, there are many great products that came from/were discovered by Canadians. Like the candy Smarties? Or how about the telephone? Zippers? Velcro? Zambonis? Basketball? Lacrosse? Hockey? Apple pie? Pictionary? Paint rollers? Kerosene? Instant potato flakes??? These are just few of MANY products from Canada. For a more extensive list, click here!

Not only do we owe a lot of gratitude for those inventions, there are more reasons to love Canada. They have the largest English population that never surrendered to anyone or withdrew from any war. So what if they don't have a strong military? So far, they haven't needed one? It was also rated on the GPI (Global Peace Index) 11th most peaceful country. Want to know where the good old USA ranked? 97th. To examine this list for yourself, click here

This is why I honor Canada so much. Even with it's proximity to the USA, it's been able to avoid all the corruption we've been nailed for. Canada and the USA are very similar in many ways, and they make great Allies. I find Canada a more peaceful, chilled out version of the USA. Plus, they talk really fun, eh?

People call Canada America's hat. Well let's think about it. Hats are cool and fun, and no one ever blames them! Go Canada!

I loved reading that, Maria. Way to be open to other countries, too! A lot of Americans don't know anything about any other country besides the one they live in, but you are obviously an expert on Canada! I've been to Canada a bunch of times, in both the winter and the summer, and I love it. It was so beautiful, the people were nice, and the money was cheaper than US currency (or at least it used to be...). Keep up that great attitude!

Maria, I completely agree on your view of Canada. About half of my family has moved there and I go there about every year. Canada practically is America, just with less conflict! On the plane home from Canada over the summer, I actually had a conversation with a guy about how Americans have a bad view on Canada and I've never understood it. This is how we got the stereotype of being obnoxious Americans.

I totally share your love for Canada. I have been to places in Canada around 15 times, and everytime I go, I fall in love witht the country all over again. I especially miss Quebec City, which is absolutely gorgeous even in early spring. In fact, I blogged about my experience there, check it out! Go Canada, the EH team =]

i liked your post, and I agreed with most of it(they invented stuff), but I don't think that the fact that they haven't surrendered to anyone is really much to brag about; nor is the fact that theyre the 11th most peaceful country. For one, the reason that they've never surrendered is probably related to the fact that they haven't fought in a lot of wars, which is what i'm assuming most peaceful means. Secondly, although war isn't a good thing, it's a part of international politics. I'm sure that we as a country wouldn't have liked to go to some of these wars, but if we had a conflict with them/their ideals/ what was happening, then I think we should have gone. World War II for example. Would it have been better to not fight in the war, or fight for what we believed in/against totalitarianism? Back to your original post, don't get me wrong, I love Canada, and I think peace is a good thing, but you have to see why they aren't fighting in wars, or where these statistics come from.
